Robin Roberts' temporary goodbye won fans for ABC's Good Morning America.
The morning show, which began beating NBC's Today on a weekly basis in April for the first time since 1995, had its biggest lead yet last week.
With 5.4 million viewers, it was 883,000 ahead of Today, and marked a continued summer winning streak interrupted a few times, mainly by NBC's Olympics.
GMA climbed from 4.8 million for the week of Aug. 20, while Today was also up, less sharply, from 4.3 million, as all three morning shows might have benefited from coverage of the Republican National Convention. CBS This Morning rose slightly, to 2.3 million.
