(CNN) - Suicide now kills more people than car accidents, according to a new study from the American Journal of Public Health.
Researchers found traffic accidents were the number two cause of injury-related deaths over the past decade.
They credit recent traffic safety measures across the country for helping curb deadly accidents by 25-percent.
During that same period, suicide deaths rose by 15-percent, bringing it to the number one cause of injury-related death.
Researchers say deaths from unintentional poisoning and falls have also increased.
