St. Louis (KSDK) - I don't know about you, but when I was a kid, the grill was dad's domain and that's definitely the case at Finnegan's house.
"I grill some steak," the 4-year-old said.
He helps because at his house, dad tosses more than burgers and brats on the grill.
"A scotch egg is what we're going to make," explained Scott Thomas, one of the Grilln' Fools.
As a matter of fact, his passion or obsession with grilling led this IT guy to create a blog back in 2009. The only problem it became more popular than he could have possibly imagined.
"It was originally GrillnFool.com and I couldn't keep up with the content," said Thomas.
So he recruited his dad, who planted the seed for this several years ago.
"I sent him off to college a long time ago with a case of Ramen Noodles and portable charcoal grill,"said Greg Thomas, Scott's dad.
He also asked his cousin, Tom Jones, to lend a hand and these days they are better known as the Grillin' Fools.
"I'm a mini Grilln' Fool. Mini Grilln' Fools are better than their dads," said Finnegan.
Cuter for sure, but what the older men in Finnegan's life offer is a more flavorful, more adventurous approach to grilling.
"We just did some ribs over here where we hit them with a blow torch with apricot and apple and a pepper jelly sauce," said Thomas.
They also include their mistakes so that hopefully the next guy won't make it, but there's another lesson here on the back burner be careful what you send your kid off to college with, it might end up being more work for you later.
Then again, it could be what brings the family together week after week.
