Wood River, IL (KSDK) - A 23-year-old Wood River was indicted Friday for allegedly stabbing his father to death following an argument.
The stabbing happened at a residence in the 100 block of 9th Street in Wood River around 9:40 a.m. on September 28. According to police, the 67-year-old victim and his son were renting the second-floor of the house. The homeowner lived on the first floor.
The victim, identified as Glen Thompson, was found dead on the porch with multiple stab wounds. The son, Justin Thompson, was taken to Alton Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police believe Justin Thompson stabbed his father with a kitchen knife.
Police said they had not previously been to the residence.
The Madison County State's Attorney's Office charged Justin Thompson with first-degree murder. If convicted, Justin Thompson faces between 20 and 60 years in prison, and he'll have to serve 100 percent of that sentence.
Justin Thompson is a registered sex offender, and was convicted of the sexual exploitation of a 9-year-old girl three years ago.
He remains hospitalized. Once he's released to police custody, he'll be held without bond until trial. He will likely have to undergo a mental health evaluation to determine if he's fit to stand trial.
