Edwardsville, IL (KSDK) - Dozens of animals were discovered living in poor conditions in a home in an Edwardsville subdivision.
According to Edwardsville City Administrator Bennett Dickmann, police went to a home on Birdie Court in the County Club View Subdivision after receiving numerous complaints about animal care and property maintenance violations.
Inside the home, authorities found 60 cats and three dogs. One cat was dead and at least six more could not be captured because they had taken refuge in inaccessible areas of the residence. One dog's health was in such poor condition that the animal had to be euthanized.
The city's public works department is conferring with the city attorney's office to have the home declared uninhabitable, Dickmann said.
The homeowner's name is being withheld pending formal charges.
