St. Louis (KSDK) -- St. Louis-based Enterprise Holdings Foundation is donating $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid in Hurricane Sandy disaster relief.

Enterprise Holdings Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the company that operates Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands.

The Red Cross is using donations to help send volunteers to the East Coast disaster zone.  Thirty-five volunteers from the Greater St.Louis Region have already deployed. 

More than 6,800 people stayed in Red Cross shelters Thursday night.
