Greenville, SC (Sports Network) - Brian Barbour scored 19 points, handed out
eight assists and collected six rebounds as the Columbia Lions rolled over the
Furman Paladins 68-47 in a season opener at Timmons Arena.
Joining Barbour in double figures for Columbia (1-0) was Steve Frankoski (16)
and Alex Rosenberg (14). Rosenberg also led the team with eight rebounds.
Colin Reddick scored 11 points for Furman (0-1) and was the only player in
double figures.
Columbia dominated in the first half and led 37-17 at the break. The Lions
shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the period while limiting Furman to
just 24.1 percent. The Lions also outscored Furman 12-3 from the three-point
line in the first half.
In the second half Furman held a 12-5 advantage on points from the free throw
line but still struggled from the floor (39.1 percent). Columbia slowed
slightly to 47.8 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes.
Columbia had a 37-33 edge in rebounds and outscored Furman 30-20 on points in
the paint.
