Morehead, KY (Sports Network) - Angelo Warner and Milton Chavis each scored 15
points, as the Morehead State Eagles notched a 71-63 win over the Indiana
State Sycamores in non-conference play at Johnson Arena.
Although Warner and Chavis were the only double-digit scorers for the victors,
11 different Eagles (5-5) reached the scoring column to help the team end a
three-game slide.
The Sycamores (4-3) opened their five-game road trip with a loss, despite a
game-high 20 points from Khristian Smith and another 19 from Manny Arop. Jake
Odum also finished in double figures with 15 points.
The Sycamores never led in the contest, as MSU jumped out to a 9-2 lead and
never looked back. A 16-5 run for the Eagles turned a two-point lead into a
13-point cushion with three minutes to play in the opening frame. ISU put
together a late spurt to head into the locker room at halftime trailing,
32-26.
Morehead State took its largest lead at 45-29 with 14:19 remaining, but
Indiana State would not go quietly. The Sycamores charged back with a 28-14
run over the next 11 minutes to trim the margin to 59-57 with 2:55 to play.
However, the Eagles ended the threat with nine points at the free-throw line
down the stretch.
Morehead State's reserves played a big role in the outcome, as they outscored
the ISU bench, 41-6 for the game.
