Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Tyrone Garland erupted for a career-high
26 points off the bench as he helped lead the La Salle Explorers over the Iona
Gaels, 88-74, in non-conference action at Tom Gola Arena.
Garland was 10-of-22 from the field as the Explorers (7-2) earned their sixth
win in seven games. Ramon Galloway recorded a very impressive double-double
with 21 points and 10 assists, to go with six rebounds and a couple of steals.
Jerrell Wright added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Tyreek Duren scored
13 as well.
Coming off the bench for Iona (5-5), David Laury recorded a double-double of
his own with 21 points and 14 rebounds while also tallying two blocks and two
steals at the defensive end of the floor. Lamont Jones scored 19 points and
Sean Armand added 15 as the Gaels saw their two-game winning streak snapped.
La Salle led 49-45 at halftime after shooting 53.8 percent from the field in
the first half.
The Explorers pulled away in the second half, outscoring the
Gaels 39-29, shooting 46.9 percent from the field while holding the visitors
to only 1-of-11 beyond the arc.
The Gaels were 5-of-23 from 3-point range, leaving them at just 21.7 percent
efficiency from beyond the arc.
