ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - St. Louis County is correcting what may have been a $2 million mistake.

The department of revenue says some tax collectors may have failed to charge an extra percentage slated for the Metropolitan Sewer District.

While the amount is only a small fraction of the $2 billion that the county collected this year, the officials are working to confirm the mistake.

If the mistake is confirmed, homeowners will have a year to pay the extra tax.

The average amount owed would be a little more than five dollars.
