Murfreesboro, TN (Sports Network) - Kerry Hammonds led the way with 27 points,
as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders took down the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns,
82-60, in Sun Belt Conference action at the Murphy Center.
For the Blue Raiders (16-4, 8-1 SBC), Raymond Cintron added 12 points and
Shawn Jones pulled down 10 rebounds.
Shawn Long posted a double-double for the Ragin' Cajuns (7-14, 3-7) with 21
points and 13 rebounds, while Elfrid Payton chimed in with 14 points.
In the first half, Middle Tennessee shot 44.4 percent from the field and
connected on 5-of-11 from 3-point range, as it used a 19-2 run to take a
commanding, 41-21, lead into the break. Louisiana was just to just 30.4
shooting from the field, missing all but one of their eight 3-point tries in
the opening stanza.
The Blue Raiders continued to shoot the ball well from distance, making 5-
of-12 from beyond the 3-point arc and shooting 48.3 percent from the field
overall. The Ragin' Cajuns did their best to keep up, connecting on 45.2
percent of their field goal tries and 4-of-11 from 3-point distance. Middle
Tennessee pushed their lead to as many as 29 in the second half, as it
coasted to victory to remain perfect at home this season.
The Blue Raiders had the edge on points in the paint, 34-20. They also scored
26 points off of 15 Ragin' Cajuns' turnovers.
