Thieves strike STL community garden again

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Thieves struck two more sheds of St. Louis community gardens in the past week.

According to Gateway Greening spokesperson Shelene Treptow, someone stole tools worth $2,500 from the outdoor office in the 3800 block of Bell Avenue. In addition, three weed whips worth $1,050 were taken from the City Seeds Urban Farm in the 2100 block of Pine Street.

Last week, thieves stole 35 tools from a shed, which brings the overall total for tools and damage to more than $5,000.

Gateway Greening had hoped to replace the funding from the first theft, but the additional thefts has caused setbacks.
