Thousands without power in St. Louis area

ST. LOUIS – Thousands are without electricity around the St. Louis area after quick-moving storms blew through the area Thursday afternoon.

Outages stretch from Montgomery City, northwest of the St. Louis metro area, down through Marthasville, Washington, Union, and St. Clair.

Another block of outages stretch from St. Peters, down through St. Charles, University City, and down to Jefferson County. As of 9:45 p.m. Thursday Ameren had restored power to 43,600 customers throughout the state, with 24,405 still without power.

Parts of Illinois are also without power, including residents in Alton, East Alton, and Granite City.

There's no word yet when power will be restored to these areas. Visit Ameren Missouri and Ameren Illinois' websites to report for the most up-to-date information.

Power was restored at the Hardee's IcePlex in Chesterfield after a brief outage Thursday afternoon. A spokesperson for the rink said more than 2,000 fans were expected to attend high school hockey playoffs; they will go ahead as planned.
