Two injured during Lake of Ozarks boat race

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. – Two people suffered serious injuries during a boat race in the Lake of the Ozarks Saturday morning.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Joel Begin of Valley Field, Quebec and Michael Fiore of Bristol, R.I. lost control of their 42 foot outer limits catamaran during the Lake of the Ozark Shootout. The report cites wind interference as the cause of the accident.

The boat launched into the air and flipped twice before entering the water bow first and coming to a rest. Both men were thrown from the boat, according to the report.

Begin was taken to an area hospital, while Fiore had to be airlifted to a hospital in Columbia, Mo.

A nearby viewer of the race caught the accident on video and posted it on YouTube.

The Lake of the Ozark Shootout is the largest unsanctioned boat race in the United States, according to its website.
