Two injured, one critically in southwest St. Louis fire

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KSDK) - An early morning house fire in southwest St. Louis has left a couple and their dog injured.

Firefighters responded to the smoky fire in the 6400 block of Colletta Drive just after 4:30 a.m. Monday and found smoke coming from the upper portion of the single-story frame house.

Once inside the home, fire officials located a male victim who was critically injured, a woman was less seriously hurt, both were taken to area hospitals. Firefighters also rescued a dog from the home and were working to resuscitate the animal, while waiting for animal rescue volunteers to respond.

A neighbor attempted to help extinguish the fire until authorities arrived on the scene.

No immediate word on what sparked the fire.
