VP Biden heads to Granite City Wednesday

GRANITE CITY, Ill. - Vice President Joe Biden travels to Granite City, Ill. Wednesday, and will visit America's Central Port to highlight the need for investment in infrastructure to create jobs.

America's Central Port is home to more than 70 tenants who employ 900 workers. It's the region's only full service international port, with access to rail, interstate highway, and river traffic.

Five years ago, the federal government invested $14.5 million to generate new business and jobs

"The Port District here was the recipient of one of the first projects associated with the ARRA funds which was bigger one, transportation investment generating economic recovery, and we received a total of $14.5 million from the federal government here to invest in our new project called the South Harbor," said Dennis Wilmsmeyer.

Wilmsmeyer says 200 jobs have been created at the port and expects more job creation when the south harbor project is completed.
