What is secondary drowning?

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Secondary drowning is a term that has many parents talking on social media.

Usually, it's accompanied by a story of a child drowning hours after they took in some water while swimming or even bathing.

But how serious are these concerns, and what do parents need to know?

NewsChannel 5 brought in Dr. Jeremy Garrett, a pediatric intensive care physician at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, to answer that very question.
