Mother, toddler located safe in Marissa, Ill.

The mother and toddler was reported missing around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

MARISSA, ILL. - The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department received tips Monday night of a woman and small child reported as missing.

Around 8:50 p.m. Monday, the mother, Sarah Donley-Fortner, 29, was found with her toddler. Both mother and toddler sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Police consider the case a criminal investigation.

Fortner was reported missing by her cousin around 2:20 p.m. Monday. He said Fortner took a boat across a body of water close to Houston Rd. Upon reaching an embankment, Fortner ran off with the child.

Investigators considered her dangerous due to the comments her cousin reported to police.

Her cousin cited he was worried about her mental state.

Police are treating the case as an isolated domestic issue.

Both mother and toddler were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
