Woman died from head, chest trauma in Alton car accident

MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) – A 27-year-old woman died from head and chest trauma injuries sustained in a Sunday evening crash in Alton, Ill., according to Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn.

Christina Martinez, of Fairmont City, Ill., drove eastbound on Broadway when her 2000 Chevrolet Equinox struck a concrete barricade adjacent to the ConAgra facility, west of State Street. She died at the scene less than an hour later, according to the report.

Martinez wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to Nonn. Madison County Sheriff's Department are investigating an earlier crash involving Martinez's car and another car along Great River Road near Clifton Terrace Road in Godfrey.

Kassly Mortuary is handling the funeral arrangements for Martinez, and Alton police continue to investigate the crash.
