Woman killed in wrong-way accident identified

ST. LOUIS COUNTY - A woman killed in a wrong-way accident on Interstate 44 Friday night has been identified.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, 79-year-old Margie M. O'Shaughnessy was killed as she drove eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway.

Police say O'Shaughnessy was driving a 2005 Pontiac Bonneville in the second lane and hit a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport head-on, which was driven by a 28-year-old man. The Montero then spun into the third lane, which caused a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox to hit the side of a 1997 Lincoln Continental, driven by a 65-year-old female.

The Continental then hit the Montero as O'Shaughnessy's vehicle continued to spin into the inside wall.

The 28-year-old man was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Equinox was not injured. The driver of the Continental suffered minor injuries.

O'Shaughnessy was pronounced dead at the scene.
