Woman struck by MetroLink train dies

ST. LOUIS COUNTY – A woman who was hit by a MetroLink train Monday afternoon and needed to be extricated from underneath the train has died.

Authorities say the woman, identified as 27-year-old Veronica Muo, was hit by a train after 5 p.m. near the UMSL North station. Muo was conscious when she was airlifted to an area hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later. She was a student at UMSL.

Police say Muo was at a pedestrian crossing when she slipped and fell before she was struck by the train. There's no word on what caused her to slip. The crossing is not gated and does not have signals.

Kara Price-Shannon, a spokesperson for Metro, says that as of 7:45 p.m. MetroLink riders should expect 20 minute delays. The buses that were transporting passengers between the North Hanley and UMSL South stations have been canceled. It should take MetroLink about one hour to get back on its regular schedule.
