Yellow ribbon project in St. Clair honors veterans

All of the money will be donated to the St. Clair VFW.

Volunteers spent the day hanging yellow ribbons on trees along Main Street in St. Clair, Missouri.

Hundreds of ribbons were purchased for $1 each, most bearing the name of a veteran.

Nichole Zielke organized the Ribbons for Veterans fundraising project.

All money raised will be donated to the St. Clair VFW.

Zielke says it's important to honor the men and women who served our country, especially as Veterans Day approaches.

“They leave their families they leave the country and are willing just to step up anytime we need them and that's amazing to me,” Zielke said.

The ribbons will be on display through Nov. 19.

Organizers hope one day to bring the Ribbons for Veterans project to other communities.
