Man found next to motorcycle with gunshot wound to head

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KSDK) - A 43-year-old Pontoon Beach man was found dead early Sunday morning in rural Granite City next to his motorcycle.

Police say they initially investigated the incident as a motorcycle crash, but received a 911 call a short time later from someone who claimed the victim had been shot. Authorities say they've learned the person who contacted them was involved in the incident, and later discovered that the victim had a gunshot wound to the head.

The man's identity has not yet been released.

A 22-year-old man was taken into custody in Pontoon Beach. Police say he and the victim were acquaintances, and the two met at Forbes Chiropractic & Rehab at 4700 Nameoki Road -- where the shooting occurred.

Investigators say they have tentatively determined a motive, but declined to release it to the public. The suspect is being held at Madison County Jail pending formal charges.
