MSD asks residents for help clearing inlets

ST. LOUIS – The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District received hundreds of calls Friday for requests to remove snow from inlets.

Because there are more than 130,000 inlets in the city and county, MSD is asking the public to remove snow from inlets near their property. This will allow MSD workers to focus on low-lying areas where there are known drainage problems.

If it is physically impossible to remove snow in front of an inlet, or if ponding or flooding occurs on a street due to a blocked inlet, contact MSD's customer service number at 314-768-6260 or email them at

MSD is prepared for heavy rain and melting snow that could cause flooding Friday. They've tripled the number of crews on the clock whose only job is to clear inlets. They've also tripled the number of crew members on standby.
