Multi-car accident causes I-270 to shut down overnight

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – A multi-car accident briefly shut down eastbound Interstate 270 near Missouri Route 370 late Tuesday night.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2001 Grand Prix lost control of the car going eastbound I-270 and went into the path of a 2000 Ford Explorer, which caused the SUV to overturn.

That accident triggered another accident along the same stretch of the way when a car rear-ended another car that slowed down for the overturned accident.

Police arrested the driver of the Grand Prix, Javier Hernandez, 38, of Kirkwood, for DWI and second-degree felony assault, according to Missouri Highway Patrol Sergeant Al Nothum.

Two people were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, according to Missouri Highway Patrol.
