LONDON (EBU) -- London's fire department has unveiled new robots designed to fight fires without risking human lives.

The robots are operated by remote control.

Some of the robots feature giant claws that can tear apart buildings and cars to help trapped people escape. Other robots can get closer to the flames than human firefighters to douse burning objects with water at close range.

London fire officials said they're still devising ways the robots will help save lives.
