Police: Man in possession of pot stole from Wal-Mart

WOOD RIVER, Ill. (KSDK) - A 21-year-old man is charged with drug possession and theft after authorities found numerous items he allegedly stole from a Wal-Mart inside of his car.

A Madison County Sheriff's Deputy saw James Pritchard leave the Wal-Mart at 6660 Godfrey Road without buying anything. Suspicious, the deputy stopped his vehicle for a turn signal offense.

During the traffic stop, the deputy found several opened pieces of merchandise next to Pritchard, who admitted to stealing the items. An ensuing search revealed that he had a metal cannabis pipe, marijuana and clonazepam tablets.

He has been charged with retail theft, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of cannabis.

He is currently being held at Madison County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
