Police: Man's cell phone deflected shot fired by roommate

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) – A 54-year-old man is charged with shooting his roommate in the leg after an alcohol-fueled altercation outside of their apartment building.

Police say Robert Jordan and the victim were drinking outside Saturday when Jordan tried to start a fight, ultimately pulling out a revolver and firing several shots.

One of the shots hit the victim's leg, but was deflected by the cell phone in his front pocket, according to a news release.

Jordan allegedly fled the scene in a maroon Dodge van. He has since been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

Police say Jordan is still at large and should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Collinsville Police Department at 1-618-344-2131.
