Police: Off-duty officer stabbed in abdomen in fight over stolen glasses

CLAYTON, Mo. (KSDK) – A St. Louis police officer is in stable condition after being stabbed in the abdomen early Saturday morning while off-duty, according to a news release.

Police say the 27-year-old officer was leaving a business in the 2900 block of Clayton at about 3:15 a.m. with a 29-year-old friend when one of the two suspects removed the 29-year-old's glasses and refused to give them back.

The victim and the suspect started arguing, leading the officer to intervene, according to the news release. The off-duty officer and the suspect started fighting, and the suspect stabbed him in the abdomen.

The two suspects fled west through an alley, police say.

The off-duty officer was taken to the hospital in serious/stable condition. His friend was not injured, but he said his glasses were stolen.

The officer is an almost six-year veteran of the force, police say.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
