Narcan bill moves to Missouri Senate

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A bill to put a rescue drug in the hands of first responders is one step closer to becoming a law.

The Missouri Senate is now considering whether to allow pharmacies to sell Narcan to police and firefighters. Narcan can reverse symptoms of a heroin overdose in 60 seconds.

Right now, the drug is available in an injectable form as well as a nasal spray.

Some EMTs in the St. Louis area already use Narcan, but supporters say police often arrive to a scene before ambulances.
