VA reform on verge of collapse

ST. LOUIS - The effort of overall the scandal ridden Department of Veterans Affairs nearly blew up Thursday as Democrats and Republicans blamed each other for the stalemate.

The conflict isn't on major policy differences. In fact, Democrats and Republicans agree on most of the key components of the bill. The struggle is over how to pay for the fixes that could cost between $25 billion and $30 billion.

Meanwhile, the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, just released a staggering new survey of 2,000 post-9/11 veterans. It shows:

- 47% know at least one Iraq or Afghanistan veteran who has attempted suicide.
- 40% know someone who has died by suicide, up 3 points from 2013.
- 31% say they have thought about taking their own life
- 53% say they have a mental health injury.
