The Self-Help Center has a grant to offer people access to mental health evaluations and medications.  Grants typically run out of funds at some point, so it is not a guarantee and people should contact them as soon as possible.

The Department of Mental Health has funded three places in our area to do psychiatric evaluations at low cost or sliding scale:

BJC Behavioral Health

BJC provides sliding scale psychiatric evaluations for certain groups of people.  If a person has Medicaid or is young and undiagnosed, he/she is more likely to get a psychiatric evaluation from BJC.  However, they advise callers that they cannot accept everyone. 

Hopewell Mental Health Center

Hopewell will give sliding scale evaluations to North St. Louis City residents.

Comtrea

Comtrea provides sliding scale psychiatric evaluations for residents of Jefferson County.  If a resident does not qualify, psychiatric evaluations can be done for $100.  Follow up visits for 15 minutes cost $25.  Comtrea also accepts private insurance.
