Alton, IL (KSDK) - He's dedicated most of his life to public service. On Wednesday, Alton's fire chief retired.
Greg Bock has been fighting fires for 32 years, more than 24 of them with the Alton Fire Department.
He'll be the associate director of safety systems at Lewis and Clark Community college.
Even though it means no more calls in the middle of the night, Bock says it'll be hard to put the job behind him.
"It's hard to be at home and see an emergency response vehicle or hear one and not know what's going on and how can I help. And it's in Alton here it's a small community so everybody knows everybody," said Bock.
Bernie Sebold is the new Alton fire chief.
At one time, Sebold served as deputy chief for the department.
