East St. Louis, IL (KSDK) - At 7 p.m. Thursday night an East St. Louis council member will present a plan he hopes will make the city safer.
It's called the "Safer Streets" proposal.
If it passes, most businesses would be forced to close at 1 a.m. on weekdays and 2 a.m. on the weekends.
Illinois Senator Dick Durbin supports the plan as a way to cut down on violent crime.
Mayor Alvin Parks opposes the curfew, saying it hurts city business.
