MADISON, Ill. (KSDK) - A Madison, Illinois woman has been sentenced to prison time for embezzlement.
Amy Shelby, 38, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $112,383.52 in restitution.
Shelby pleaded guilty in 2012 to wire fraud.
Court documents state the owner and management office of Oakmont Mini-Storage was contacted about delinquent payments to a credit account they were unaware existed. An audit revealed Shelby, the manager of the company, had applied for a commercial credit card in her name and used it to make fraudulent purchases, including personal purchases for perfume satellite television, payments for personal bills, and a monthly credit report service.
Shelby was also found to paying the credit bill and other personal bills with company money.
The audit also found Shelby had kept cash deposits and payments made by customers for storage units.
