Threat prompts security increase at Alton High

KSDK -- Security has been stepped up since a "threatening statement" was found in an Alton student's notebook Monday afternoon.

Alton High Principal Barb Gillian released a statement that said the Madison County Sheriff's Department was investigating and that district officials were cooperating.

Officials ordered security sweeps of Alton High. Students' backpacks have been searched at the school's entrance. Also, student movement throughout the school will be restricted this week.
