Skeletal remains ID'd as woman missing since 2014

She disappears in 2014, and were found in the woods by a hunter earlier this week.

STE. GENEVIEVE, MO. (AP) - Skeletal remains found in Ste. Genevive County Tuesday night were identified as Lynn Messer, the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff's Office said Friday evening.

Authorities in eastern Missouri's Ste. Genevieve County began investigating after the remains were found near the home where Messer lived before going missing in 2014.

Sheriff Gary Stolzer told media outlets the remains were found Tuesday night by a hunter, and that the FBI was called in to assist in the investigation.

Stolzer said it could have taken months to identify the bones, but they were identified less than a week later by the St. Louis Medical Examiner's Office.

Messer was 52 in July 2014 when she was reported missing from a 250-acre family farm near Bloomsdale.
