St. Louisan made shoes for Pope John Paul II

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A St. Louisan received a rather unusual request during John Paul II's visit to the Gateway City back in 2009.

Gos Torregross got a call from Archbishop Rigali telling him the Pope's feet were swollen, and he needed a pair of tennis shoes.

"Rebook International called so I had these made special with golden shoe string, and a plate on the side," Torregross said. "And they're duplicates of the 11-and-a-half he wanted."

Gus also received a letter of thanks from the Vatican for his efforts.
