Tanning bed use before age 30 increases risk of cancer by 75%

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A tanning bed might look tempting now that the cooler weather's set in, but consider this: the World Health Organization says people who use tanning beds before they're 30 increase their lifetime risk of melanoma by 75 percent.

Back in August, the state of Illinois banned indoor tanning for anyone under 18. But there's no age limit in Missouri and young people don't need a parent's consent to use them.

On Monday we brought in a new mother, Mindy White, who found her melanoma while she was pregnant. Her dermatologist, Dr. Lynn Cornelius, professor in dermatology at Washington University School of Medicine and a specialist at Siteman Cancer Center, also joined her on First @ 4.
