Thousands flood streets of Springfield for Hailey Owens' memory

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KSDK) – Downtown Springfield glowed with the light of thousands of candles Saturday night, as the streets flooded with people who wanted to honor the memory of 10-year-old Hailey Owens, who was taken from the community much too soon.

They came because they knew Hailey Owens. And some came even if they never got the chance to meet her.

That includes the man who had the idea, and called on his community to gather here, spreading the word with just a simple Facebook post.

Police say Hailey was kidnapped and killed earlier this week. The suspect, Craig Wood, has pleaded not guilty in her death.
