Three teens charged in Roxana HS lockdown

ROXANA, Ill. (KSDK) – Three teenage boys face felony disorderly conduct charges in connection with a false report of an active shooter that prompted the lockdown of Roxana Junior and Senior High Schools Tuesday afternoon.

Two of suspects are 15 and live in Roxana and Wood River. The third, who is 16, hails from South Roxana. Though the charges are felonies, the case will be handled in juvenile court. None of the suspects have been identified.

Potential penalties range from supervision to probation to the juvenile department of corrections.

Police responded to Roxana High School Tuesday afternoon after a student sent a text message to a family member claiming that shots had been fired at the high school, prompting the family member to call 911.

The building was placed on lockdown while police swept the building, and authorities later determined that it was a hoax. There's no word yet if it was connected to April Fool's Day.

The three suspects were taken to Madison County Juvenile Detention Center in Edwardsville.
