Trigger lock giveaway for gun safety

KSDK – A retail chain is offering a huge giveaway this weekend in hopes that it will save lives down the line.

Gander Mountain is taking a stand to secure firearms by giving away 50,000 trigger locks.

The retail chain is doing it at all of its 133 stores in 25 states until Sunday.

One of the locations taking part was in Fenton on Gravois Bluffs Boulevard.

A spokesperson said the giveaway falls perfectly in line with Gander Mountain's Firearms Responsibility call to action.

"Across the country, there's accidents every day and most of them involve children," Steve Uline said. "Most of them involve a child finding a gun that had not been secured. What we say is put it in a safe, or minimally have a trigger lock on it, so it can't fire. So if a child does find it, it can't be used."

Customers who want a free trigger lock also have to sign a pledge to secure their firearms.
