Trooper injured by DWI suspect released from hospital

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – The 32-year-old Missouri State Trooper who was injured after an alleged drunk driver hit his vehicle – causing it to hit him – has been released from the hospital.

The crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning just north of the Reavis Barracks exit.

Highway Patrol says Jeremy Potocki, a married father of three and almost 11-year veteran of the force, suffered a concussion. The driver, identified as 43-year-old Michael Haley, has been charged with two accounts of second degree assault and driving while intoxicated. He was also injured during the incident.

Police say Potocki was trying to make a traffic stop when Haley's Jetta slammed into his SUV, which hit Potocki. The passenger in the car he was driving to pull over had minor injuries.

Two lanes of southbound I-55 were closed while the accident was under investigation.
