Underage driver crash leads to death of 12-year-old

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (WLS) - A 12-year-old Almani Kreamer was killed and three other kids injured when the alleged underage driver of the vehicle the group was riding in crashed into a tree. The child's grieving mother Regina Anderson wants to know why.

"They were all too young to be in a car together and a 13-year-old driving; that part is just you don't know what to say."

Investigators have not confirmed the age of the driver, but say all the vehicle's occupants were under the age of 16.

Police have had little to say about their ongoing investigation into the accident that happened; they do say they believe speed may have played a role in the crash.

It happened just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of the 600 block of Brookwood Terrace and South Suburban Olympia Fields. Neighbors like Jim Moroney heard tires squealing then a loud boom.

The first responders who showed up I told them I hadn't seen any movement out of one of them in the backseat.

Kreamer was pronounced dead in an area hospital. The three other children, two girls and a boy were also injured. Terrell Neely says the group came by his house twice before the accident, it was not surprise to him to see the girl driving the car.

A while ago, she said that her mom let her drive on her birthday when it was her birthday a couple months ago, and she said her mom let her drive the car around.

Relatives of the alleged 13-year-old driver refused to speak on camera. The tragedy is a shock to this close knit community. Almani and his mother moved to the area recently to make her family's life better.

You don't know what to say. There's nothing you can do but pray.
