Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks is revising his allegation that Democrats are 'waging a war on whites,' adding that the Republican Party is also part of that war.
In a radio interview on Aug. 6 in which National Journal columnist Ron Fournier read from a Republican National Committee report about reaching out to Hispanic Americans, Brooks said, "We should not be dividing people" by race or nationality. He added that the Republican strategy was akin to "Democratic race-baiting strategy."
He went further to explain his point.
Democrats have a strategy to appeal to blacks based on race. ... Now, to appeal to people based on race, there has to be a victim race. Well, if there's going to be a victim race, there also has to be an oppressor race, so by inference the Democrats are saying that the oppressor race is the Caucasian race.
In an interview with USA TODAY on Tuesday, Brooks said Democrats were fomenting racial hatred with their political agenda.
"If you look at current federal law, there is only one skin color that you can lawfully discriminate against. That's Caucasians--whites."
Some commentators on Twitter have been making fun of the #waronwhites rhetoric used by Brooks.
