St. Charles (KSDK)-- Keeping residents safe can work up powerful appetites in men and women in uniform. Members of the St. Charles police and fire departments faced off across the table Saturday in a charity fundraising rib-eating contest sponsored by the St. Charles Texas Roadhouse.

Proceeds from the event, which also featured tours of police cars and fire trucks, went to the Special Olympics and Responder Rescue, a St. Louis-based charity that provides assistance to first responders who have been injured in the line of duty.

By the way, police officers won the contest. They walked away with bragging rights, and maybe a little heartburn.

Ten percent of dinner sales at the Texas Roadhouse Monday, June 18 will go to those same organizations. The restaurant is located at 1300 Bass Pro Drive.
