Rock Island, IL (WQAD/CNN) - The man who was the oldest male in the United States has passed away.

Shelby Harris died Wednesday in Rock Island, Illinois at the age of 111.

Harris was born in 1901 and outlived both of his wives and his three daughters.

Earlier this year he celebrated his 111th birthday by throwing out the first pitch at a minor league baseball game.

Shelby's advice for a long life is to love and believe in people.
