West Mifflin, PA (WTAE/CNN) - What would you do to celebrate your 80th birthday?
For one roller coaster enthusiast the choice was clear; he wanted to ride his favorite roller coaster 80 times in a row!
How many times have you ridden your favorite roller coaster? Dozens? More? Vic Kleman has done it 4,700 times. His first ride was in 1958, and some of his friends tricked him.
"You go down the hill, well, they had be turned around talking to them and we went down the hill, and gullible me when we got to the top for the double dip, they said look over there so, I looked over there, and we went down the double dip," said Kleman.
To celebrate his upcoming 80th birthday Kleman wanted to ride the Jack Rabbit roller coaster 80 times in a row and he has a simple reason.
"The fascination with the roller coaster is fun, it's exciting, and it, just, well I don't know how to explain it, it just makes you feel good," he said.
Kleman joined a roller coaster enthusiasts group but he's not even really trying to set a record.
"Probably half the days of the summer, he's here taking a few rides on it, and over time that adds up," said Bill Linkenheimer with the American Coaster Enthusiasts.
The ride itself is 12 years older than Kleman. In three years he'd like to celebrate Jack Rabbit's 95th birthday in a similar fashion, and he has more parties like this in mind.
"Of course if I'm around I'd like to ride it 100 times in 2020, we'll see," he said.
