KSDK -- Last year, more than one billion tickets were sold at movie theaters around the country. It's big business, unless of course you just want to tell someone's story.
"I could care less about fame or fortune," explains St. Louis filmmaker Mike Steinberg. "I just really am compelled to tell stories."
As it turned out, he had two stories to tell.
"It started as one film, we set out to make a film that dealt with all of the music scene of the 70's in St. Louis," Steinberg added.
However, as he began weaving them together, something seemed off key.
"It just wasn't working, and then as we started producing the film, we realized for one that Steve Scorfina deserved his own film," Steinberg went on to say. "He's just such a compelling character, he's just been banging it out for years."
So for the last two and half years, he's been writing, producing, directing and editing two rock documentaries along with two other guys.
"I have to say finishing one film is hard enough, but in tandem doing two, I would not recommend it at all," Steinberg advises.
He would however, recommend seeing them, especially since both revolve around St. Louis.
"It's very much the story of the band, how they got a deal and what recording sessions were like and then what happened," Steinberg explains.
What happens next for Mike Steinberg is up in the air, but you can bet he'll be telling someone's story.
You can see both movies, 'Old Dog, New Trick' and 'Pride of St. Louis' on Friday night at the Tivoli in the Loop at 7:00 p.m. The stars of the film will then perform live afterwards in the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill. The St. Louis International Film Festival is an 11-day event. For more information about the line-up, visit Metromix.
