Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (NBC) -- Carnival has gone to the dogs.

Rio's famed Copacabana beach looked more like a dog park Sunday as thousands of canine lovers took part in the annual pet-parade.

The parade is held every year just days before the official Carnival season begins.

Carnival officially opens on Friday, when the Rio de Janeiro mayor hands the key to the city to carnival king Momo.
